At Spruce Grove Cattle Co. you will find cattle raised efficiently with a common sense approach. Our focus has always been on raising structurally sound cattle that are reproductively efficient. Our thoughts are that if the best cow in the world doesn’t produce a calf every year at a regular interval she is worthless. The kill plant trims our cow herd’s feet and that solves a lot of problems. If a cow gives us trouble there are no excuses made and she is gone. We attempt to breed and sell you a balanced package. Carcass traits are important. However we won’t sacrifice fertility in a cowherd chasing them. At present the cowherd consists of 150-registered Simmental and 50 Red Angus cows. Since the beginning |
we have focused on the polled factor while maintaining thickness and muscling. Our concentration for the past 10 years has been red factor or baldy Simmentals. We truly believe these are the cattle of the present and future. With the red factor Simmental, calving ease and calf vigor is a tremendous improvement over the Simmental of the past. Black genetics are being slowly introduced to our Simmental herd and we look forward to the results. We won’t make them black just to be black! To compliment our Simmental herd a select group of Red Angus females are also run at Spruce Grove Cattle Co. In 1991 we purchased our first Red Angus females Mackenzie Red Angus at Mountain View, AB. along with some 6-Mile bred cattle. Once again common sense genetics that fit in very well with our goals and ideals. We are a performance-reporting herd and full members of both the Simmental and Angus associations. We have worked hard since 1977 to gather data to help you in the selection of your next purchase. |
