Not only are we proud of our
mothers but we are exceptionally proud of our home-grown herd sires - the
other half of the equation. Our cows are only as good as the bulls we use
on them.
Sparrows
Advantage 230H - Has exceeded every expectation of ours. He is the bull
that we've driven over 10,000 kilometers to find...ends up he was right in
our own back yard! He is a bull we've bred to heifers and mature cows
alike and with equally pleasing results. He has kept our birth weights in
check, lowered gestation, kept weaning and yearling weights on par...and
all in an attractive package. He has left us a very uniform package of
bulls and an absolutely outstanding group of breeding females. They are
mellow, loose hided and easy keeping. The young daughters wean off big,
bloomy calves in the fall and can hold their own against the older brood
matrons in the herd.
Sparrows
Alliance 513G - When one of the most reputable, progressive Charolais
breeders in the world buys one of your bulls, you should really take
notice. Lindskov-Thiel bought Alliance as a calf after seeing him on the
side of his dam at Agribition. After several calf crops, we are
thrilled....easy fleshing bulls. His daughters are absolutely faultless in
udder type and even the youngest of cows can compete with the heaviest
weaning weights of the mature cowherd. Sparrows Alliance has changed the
landscape in the Charolais industry. His bloodline has land marked many
herds across North America making him one of the most popular sires in the
21st century.
There
are some other sires represented in the offering. One newcomer is a bull
called "Latoro". We purchased him a few years back as an outcross from
Buddy Cobb in Montana. What can be said about him...he is STOUT! He has
awesome feet, big testicles and a good disposition. We were surprised and
pleased to see that the calves are very early to mature. His bulls are
some of the very youngest offered but can hold there own against their
contemporaries. Look for his bulls... they are hard to miss! The Latoro
daughters are very, very powerful cows! Not knowing what a total outcross
will bring to the table, we held our breath for the first couple years to
know we made the right choice in using him. Turns out we haven’t been
using him enough...we simply do not have enough daughters yet! The Latoro
daughters are beautiful mothers with exceptional mothering ability yet
nice to have around the barn. They are nice uddered cows with a lot of
hair and even more volume These are very roomy cows. Find our highest
performing calves and you’re very likely to see Latoro somewhere in the
pedigree.
When
you raise a calf and watch him grow almost every single day and you think
to yourself "boy that calf looks good" and he never has a "bad day", maybe
that's your next avenue.
Sparrows
Matador
really fit the bill for us like Advantage he was a calf who never seemed
to have a "bad day"... every time we saw him, we liked him. That carried
on well into this fall. Matador and Latoro...father and son - what is said
for one can be said for the other. As we are just starting to see the
Matador influence in the herd, we are very happy with what we’ve seen so
far. Rugged bulls with hair, testicles, and tops on them like we have
never seen. We are very proud of this sire group. If you are looking for
pretty bulls, do not look here. The Latoro and Matador sons are for
serious cattlemen only! The Matador daughters, like the Latoros, are
powerful factories that are easy to breed. Faultless udders, hair and
impressive numbers. This is just the beginning...
The latest addition
to the battery is another homeraised bull. Sparrows Cossack 11L....the
high-selling bull from our 2002 Bull Sale selling to the very reputable
breeders Horseshoe E Charolais and Chardel Charolais. He’s an Alliance son
out of a proven cow with a very profitable track record. The calves to
date are very impressive. They come easily with lots of vigor and
hair....we mean a lot of hair! Thick curly hair! They carry that hair
right on to maturity and we really like to see that. The bulls are
competitive with their weights and measures and we are excited to see how
the daughters are going to udder up.

Other
bulls represented are some pedigrees offered before tried and true. Bulls
like Northern Light have had a great influence on our herd leaving us
many daughters...many are mothers of the bulls in the sale. Ramrod - his daughters are an
integral part of our operation. To date he has left us our best set of two
year olds - coming threes...they wintered with the old cows and held their
own with no extra TLC. |
