Pasquia Red Angus started in 1985 with the purchase of 6
animals from Stuart Anderson at Rose Valley. They joined
a commercial herd of Charolais and Simmentals. Over the
past 21 years, the cow base has grown and in 2006, we
have bred 100 purebred females.
Over
the years, we have been involved in two bull test
centres, namely SLC in Regina and Northeast Test Center
at Pathlow.
In
2003, along with Sweetwater Angus, we embarked on our
own bull sale. The first 2 sales were at the Tisdale
Livestock Centre. Since the closing of the Livestock
centre, the sale has moved to Sweetwater Angus Farm near
Melfort.
The
objective of our breeding program is to raise moderate
birth weight, sound, easy doing cattle that work as well
for our customers as they do for us.
Over
the years, our breeding program has included the
extensive use of A.I. to complement natural breeding.
Herd Sires have been purchased from Get-A-Long, Six
Mile, Wards, Royal Valley and KBJ. Embryo
transplantation from some of our top producing females
has been an added feature over the last two years.
Al
works full time with the cattle and the acres we have in
grain production. We currently show at Agribition and
are regular consignors to the Masterpiece & Angus Pride.
Marg is the other partner in Pasquia Red Angus and works
off the farm in Tisdale, as a Registered Nurse in the
Public Health Area.
Rounding out the crew is Jill, the border collie, cattle
er . . . house dog, and three, four legged, long-eared
donkeys as our contribution to tourism for our area! |
