About Us

Doug Troop Hereford Farm originated in 1984 when we moved from the family farm in Portage la Prairie to set up an operation just west of Brandon, Manitoba. My wife, Jayne, works off the farm as part of the leadership team for Prairie Mountain Health. We have two children - Kaitlin, a physiotherapist in Calgary, Alberta and Adam, a pharmacist in Edmonton.

I was once told by Don Mitchell of Klondike Farms to concentrate on building a very strong cow herd because your cow herd needs to carry you from one good herd sire to the next. We have embraced this philosophy and run our operation on walking herd bulls with very strong maternal characteristics.

As a result, we have built a very good cow herd with strong milking capabilities and excellent fertility. We also use AI to bring genetics into our herd. We are enrolled on the T.H.E. program and use EPD's to enhance the predictability and performance of our cattle.
